Mark J. Perez was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Alton in July 2023. Chief Perez was born and raised in Falfurrias, TX. His journey has been filled with service, dedication, and a commitment to making a difference in his community. After graduating from Falfurrias High School in 1993, Chief Perez attended the Del-Mar Regional Police Academy in San Diego, TX. He began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer with the Falfurrias Police Department in January 1996.
Chief Perez proudly served five years of active duty in the United States Army with a Military Occupation Skill (95B) Military Police. While in the Army, he was deployed four times to areas of military operations.
Chief Perez holds an associate degree in law enforcement from South Texas College in McAllen TX and is currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in criminal justice at Texas A&M Commerce. Chief Perez is also a Graduate of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College Class 93. Chief Perez has also received the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy series award and completed the Certified Public Manager course at UTRGV.
Chief Perez actively contributes to the law enforcement community as the Secretary of the South Texas Police Chief’s Association. He also serves on the advisory Committees for the Criminal Justice Advisory Council (CJAC) and the South Texas College Law Enforcement Advisory Committee.
