Sergeant at Arms
Alfredo Alvear began his career with the Harlingen Police Department in April 1995 and has 30 years of service with HPD with more than 15 years in leadership role. Chief Alvear started as an Officer in 1995, and he soon acquired a wide range of training, experience and knowledge which includes Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer (FTO), School Resource Officer (SRO), Criminal Investigator assigned to Crimes against Persons, Personnel Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Training Sergeant, Fleet Sergeant, Explorer Advisor, and Citizens Police Academy Liaison (CPA). He was promoted to Commander on March 1, 2017, for the Patrol Division and on October 16, 2019, he was promoted to Deputy Chief. On February 19, 2025, he was appointed Interim Chief of Police and then named Chief of Police on June 18, 2025. Chief Alvear is a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran.
