Chief Leandro Sifuentes was appointed Chief of Police for the San Juan Police Department in 2023, following his service as Interim Chief beginning in 2022. He began his law enforcement career with the Elsa Police Department before joining the San Juan Police Department, where he has proudly served the community for more than 12 years.

Born in McAllen, Texas, and raised in South Pharr-Las Milpas, Texas, Chief Sifuentes moved to the City of San Juan in 2009. A proud PSJA Bears alumnus, he began his career as a patrol officer and worked in several divisions within the department, gaining broad operational and leadership experience. Chief Sifuentes strongly believes in collaboration and partnerships with other law enforcement agencies to enhance public safety and better serve the community. One of his favorite quotes, “Tenure does not make a better employee, growth does,” reflects his leadership philosophy and commitment to professional development. He also serves as Treasurer for the South Texas Police Chiefs Association.
